Transactions of the Philological Society continues the earlier Proceedings (1852-53), and is the oldest scholarly periodical devoted to the general study of language and languages that has an unbroken tradition. We are also pleased to publish the Publications of the Philological Society Monograph Series, which presents original work in descriptive and theoretical linguistics taking a synchronic or a diachronic perspective. The series editor is Professor Susan Fitzmaurice ([email protected]).
