Scott Thumma, Ph.D., is professor of sociology of religion at Hartford Theological Seminary and a principal at the related Hartford Institute for Religion Research, a 35-year old organization with an international reputation as an important bridge between the scholarly community and the practice of faith. In academic circles, Scott is recognized as a leading researcher and writer on congregational studies. He is also editor of the Lilly Endowment funded project InSites into American Religion.

Warren Bird, Ph.D., is director of research and intellectual capital development for Leadership Network. An ordained minister and staff pastor for 15 years, he has served since 1995 as a regularly contributing faculty member at Alliance Theological Seminary. Warren has co-authored 22 books including two in the Leadership Network series for Jossey-Bass: Culture Shift, written by Robert Lewis, Wayne Cordeiro and Warren Bird (2005); and Viral Churches, written by Ed Stetzer and Warren Bird (2010). Two of Warren’s co-authored books have sold more than 100,000 copies, one won the prestigious Gold Medallion award from the Evangelical Press Association and another was runner up.
