Stephen G. Post (Stony Brook, NY) is Professor of Preventive Medicine and Director of the Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics at Stony Brook University. Post is a leader in the study of altruism, compassion and love and president of the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love, an Ohio-based 501 (c)(3) established in July 2001 with support from philanthropist John Templeton and the Templeton Foundation. He received the Hope in Healthcare Award in 2008 for his "pioneering research and education in the field of unconditional love, altruism, compassion, and service." His work was included in the distinguished series Best American Spiritual Writing (2005) and he writes the Psychology Today blog entitled "The Joy of Giving." A trusted media expert on altruism, love, happiness, and generosity, Post is the author most recently of the widely praised Why Good Things Happen to Good People (Broadway, 2007) and has appeared on a wide range of radio and television programs including “Nightline” and 20/20, and National Public Radio.
