INTERIOR GRAPHIC STANDARDS, Second Edition

Based in professional practice and inspired by creative designers who enhance the built environment, INTERIOR GRAPHIC STANDARDS, SECOND EDITION, is the premier source of comprehensive design data for all aspects of commercial and residential interiors practice. The second edition of Interior Graphic Standards (John Wiley & Sons; $225.00; January 2011) is completely revised and provides professionals with the logic and aesthetics of structural design to produce building interiors that belong to the building, rather than being a decoration. Additionally, working with a building’s structure supports the reuse of materials and decreases waste, both cornerstones of sustainable design which is critical for today’s architecture and design firms.

This new edition provides essential specification and detailing information for working inside the structural shell, from interior partitions and floor systems, to color and lighting, to wall coverings and carpeting. In addition, expert advice guides readers on designing dozens of the most common interior building types, from large commercial offices to child care centers and hotels.  Interior Graphic Standards included coverage of:

  • Interior material energy use and environmental impact
  • ADA Accessibility Guidelines
  • Residential design and construction
  • Basic building construction types and their impact on interiors
  • Historic preservation and adaptive reuse of interiors
  • Life cycle costing and estimating for interior materials
  • Behavioral aspects of designing with color
  • Current issues in office design
  • Commercial and residential interior renovation for smaller projects
  • Current information on computer technology and interior design practice

The second edition of the industry standard aims to instruct and inspire architects, interior designers, interns, construction specifiers, facility managers, construction contractors and students of design. Interior Graphic Standards is the book that professionals have come to rely on when designing and building new construction, remodeling or adding to existing homes, or inspecting new or existing homes. This reference gives professionals the information they need to do the job right the first time, which is more important than ever today.
