The NATIONAL WRITING PROJECT (NWP) is a professional development network that serves teachers of writing in all subject areas and grade levels, K-12 and beyond. Founded in 1974 and headquartered at the University of California, Berkeley, the mission of the NWP is to improve student achievement by improving the teaching of writing in the nation’s schools and higher education institutions. The NWP operates a network of 200 sites hosted by local colleges or universities and is active in all 50 states, as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each site offers a range of professional development services, including summer institutes as well as in-service training programs at local schools and districts.
