About the Authors

Professor John Lockwood is a consulting geologist, now based in Hawaii. He has worked on volcanos around the world on assignments for the U. S. Geological Survey and the USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) including in Russia, the US, the Phillipines and Italy.

Professor Richard Hazlett is a Professor of Environmental Analysis and Chair of the Geology Department, Coordinator, Environmental Analysis Program, Pomona College in California. Dr. Hazlett is the winner of 1996 and 2001 Wig Awards for teaching excellence at Pomona College. His recent research has included work in the eastern Aleutian Islands on volcanic stratigraphy, mapping and interpreting the geologic evolution of Secret Spring Volcano and the Klamath River Gorge on the California-Oregon border, studying a plutonic terrane and related volcanic cover in the Eldorado Mountains of southern Nevada and mapping volcanic stratigraphy in north-western Iceland.
